Beauregard Dam, Valgrisanche (AO)
Partial demolition works
This dam, following gravity arch type criteria, was built in the 50’s to create an enormous water reserve for hydroelectric use. The dam is considerably large but the water level is kept under maximum capacity for safety reasons. In fact, since from its testing the dam revealed serious issues related with the occurrence of a deep gravitational deformation being active on the left side.
Partial demolition works were undertaken which reduced the dam from 72 meters height to 20 meters height, with an amount of 160.000 m3 of concrete removal. The demolition works, that improved the panoramic side of the top end of the valley, were carefully monitored from the point of view of the produced vibrations.
