Rocca Incisa Quarry, Bagnasco (Cuneo, north-western Italy)

Open pit cultivation of dolomites for aggregates

The Rocca Incisa quarry in Bagnasco, owned by SAISEF S.p.A., a Triassic dolomite bed is being exploited. The quarrying method implies the excavation of 10 m-high horizontal benches, whose faces have a final slope of about 45°. This configuration allows a full environmental recovery of the slopes, by minimizing the visual impact of the quarry.
The quarry includes a crushing and sieving plant for the production of aggregates for concrete and bituminous mixtures. Part of the raw quarry run is also put on the market in the form of tailings and large building blocks.
