Costiolo-Forcella Quarry
(Brembilla – BG)

Underground extraction of limestone for lime processing

The Costiolo-Forcella quarry represents one of Italy’s and Europe’s biggest underground dolomitic limestone quarries; the mining site hosts the plant for the lime processing. The activity started in 1927 with an open pit quarry.
Starting from the 1993, which is the year when the cultivation started to be undertaken underground by means of sub-level stoping method, GDP-GEOMIN has been continuously providing consulting services in mine design and on-site assistance. Currently, 12 out of the 16 designed stopes, each sizing 150 x 110 x 30 m, have already been exploited.
