Snive quartzite quarry (Roaschia-Robilante-Roccavione, Province of Cuneo, north-western Italy)

The “Snive” opencast quarry is the biggest Italian quarry for the extraction of quartzite focused on the production of silica-rich sand for the glass industry.
The yearly quarry run amounts to about 1-1,5 Mt.
The raw materiali is hauled downslope to the Robilante industrial plant via a 7 km-long conveyor belt; here it is crushed and sifted to give the final product.
